2nd ANNUAL PACKIE DUIGNAN WEEK-END

Drumshanbo Branch – Drumshanbo Comhaltas, Co. Leitrim are delighted to announce the dates for the 2nd Annual Packie Duignan week-end. The festival of traditional music, song and dance will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 25th, 26th, 27th January 2008.
The festival will be opened on Friday 25th in Gunnings Pub by Paddy Ryan, Oifigeach Ceoil C.C.E/Shannonside Radio. This will be followed by the opening session in Gunnings.
Workshops in Flute, Whistle, Fiddle, Accordian, Bodhran, will take place in Aras Phadraig on Saturday. Classs for beginners will be held in the morning and improvers in the afternoon. Tutors include Mick Mulvey, Padraig Sweeney, Yvonne Ward, Brian Mostyn, Junior Davey.
On Saturday evening the Packie Duignan Flute Gathering will be held in Berry’s Tavern. This was a hugely successful event last year when musicians who played tunes and talked about Packie Duignan included Tommy Guihan, Patsy Hanly, Mick Mulvey, Fiachra O Torna, Dan Healy, Junior Davey, Mossie Martin, Lorraine Sweeney, Rachel McGovern, Padraig Sweeney and the young Drumshanbo Flute Players, Drumshanbo Comhaltas. Louise Davitt (grand niece of Packie Duignan) on flute and Catriona Horan (relation of Seamus Horan) on Fiddle were among the many wonderful musicians taking part.
Of course there will be open sessions where everyone was welcome to join throughout the town.
On Sunday the Boxty Brunch takes place in Henry’s Tavern followed by a big session and there will be many other sessions in full swing to the late hours.
