Devasting News from Ennis, Eire. Brian Prior was the heart and soul of Comhaltas. A true gentleman who shared the ‘GRA’ of the Irish Tradition with all who endeavored to learn ‘The Music’ .

Brian was open and cheerful, enthusiastic and sincere.  He did his best by me in the times I met him in the Culturlann and at Fleadh Nua, and made me feel at home.  He will be missed as not only a force for Comhaltas, but a great fellow in his own right.  I wish the best for his family and close friends.

We have just heard about Brians passing. We met him this year in Ennis and had a great time learning tunes through his workshop. We had hoped to see him in 2010 on our next visit to Ireland from our home in Vancouver area
Canada. He was very kind to us and made us feel welcome and enjoyed his sense of humour. A great person and obviously a person dedicated to preserving Traditional Irish music. You will be missed Brian. We salute you.

My deepest sympathy to Brian’s family on their great loss.I’m glad to have known Brian and enjoyed his sessions and workshops at Fleadh Nua over the past few years. His encouraging ways and great patience made it a pleasure to meet him and work with him.He will be sadly missed.

Brian will always remain in my memory as a gracious and warm person. He helped me feel very welcome when I lived in Ennis for 4 months, far from my other home in San Francisco. He demonstrated how to include and encourage beginners and newcomers to the music and discussed the issue of seisiun etiquette with humor and directness. His warm smile, rhythmic playing, and great tunes will be sorely missed. Brian, you left us too soon, and I bet there’s a great seisiun tonight where your Spirit resides!

I am extremely sad to hear of Brian’s untimely death. He was a gentleman of many qualities whose enthusiasm and congeniality endeared him to all of us.  I shall miss him especially at Tionol Leo Rowsome where yet again he annually enthused players of all ages to participate in the Saturday session.  Suaimhneas da anam uasal ceolmhar

Brian was a wonderful session leader. I fondly remember his inviting me to sessions at Cois na hAbhna. To these he brought clusters of young learners to expand their (and my) world of experience with the music .

He was also welcoming and most pleasant to this periodic visitor to Fleadh Nua.

So sad to hear of Brian’s passing. He was always very welcoming, although we met only 2 or 3 times. He made a last impression on me.

I was heartbroken to hear of Brian’s passing. He was a great great friend. He will be sadly missed by my family and this Nation.

Devastating news of Brian’s passing almost two weeks ago now. Brian was the first person to influence and encourage me to play in sessions and I credit him so much with giving me the confidence to keep playing this music and get to the stage of playing were I am now. A gentleman and an inspiration to me in playing the violin many years ago at Bedford comhaltas sessions.

Sorry to hear the sad news of Brians death. We went to Primary School together in Drumeela n.s, in his native county, Leitrim in the 1950’s. May he rest in peace.

Brian inspired us all at his Tuesday night slow session in Monkstown ... he was an extraordinary person who will be sorely missed. It was an honour to have met this great man and we will be playing some of his favourite tunes at our Patrick’s Eve Session and on Saint Patrick’s Day ...
