- Busy Halloween in Youghal

We are looking forward to a busy weekend of activities in Youghal this Halloween as we hold our AGM, welcome visitors from our sister branch Craobh Amergin the Gael and the Cúlra group from Britain.

We’ve produced a CD for our newest tunebook, volume 3 in the “Foinn Seisiún” series of session sets (available to buy online). Here are some of our working tracks as the project moved along, just in case the Irish Music community out there is interested in taking a listen!

- Liverpool Musicians on RTE
- 14 December 2007

RTE Radio and television featured traditional entertainment from Liverpool over the weekend of 14 December 2007–16 December 2007. The Pobal television programme on Sunday 16th December, also visited Leeds where members of the Irish community including musicians and dancers took part. Young GAA activists in Britain including training sessions at Bishop Challoner School in Birmingham were also featured in the programme.

- Comhaltas expands to South America

Last night the first South American branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann was established in Argentina. The inaugral meeting took place in Ceolaras Coleman in Gurteen, Co. Sligo, a Comhaltas Regional Resource Centre.

- Downloading ComhaltasLive Programmes

We’ve had some requests lately to support downloading our daily ComhaltasLive videos. While the video files themselves are quite large and not practical for downloading, I’ve set up the audio for each programme or segment to be downloaded or played directly, which should better support visitors with dial-up internet access.

- NASC Winners 2007

Comhaltas runs an annual prize drawing called NASC, benefitting the local branches. The winners were announced this last weekend at the annual Congress weekend here in Monkstown, Co. Dublin, and here are the results.

- The Rambles of Kitty

I’ve just posted the tracks from “The Rambles of Kitty”. This 1967 LP was the first recording that Comhaltas made, and included performances from many of the popular names of the 50s and 60s: Joe Burke, Seán Keane, Séamus Connolly, Anne Mulqueen and others.

- SCT Exams for Spring of 2009

Entries for the Spring 2009 round of exams will be accepted from October up until the cut-off date of Friday, 13th December 2008.
All applicants and teachers are encouraged to carefully read the SCT Syllabus in advance of the exam, paying particular attention to the requirement for the written submissions at the Senior level.
Entries for the Spring 2009 round of exams will be accepted up until the cut-off date of 1st December 2008.
