Branch History

CCE Barr na Sráide originated from the Cahirciveen Comhaltas Branch which was formed over 40 years ago. Cahirciveen has a long history of Comhaltas and great credit is due to all those who worked tiresly over the years to keep this tradition strong in the locality. Holding a traditional ceilí on a weekly basis during the summer months and particapting in many local events during the year.

In October 2008 the Cahirciveen Comhaltas Branch and the Iveragh Traditional Group amalgamated bringing together an abundance of musicians, singers and dancers not just from Cahirciveen but also the surrounding areas and it was because of this that it was decided to rename the branch Barr na Sraíde. The Branch are very lucky to have 3 young enthuastic music teachers who teach music lessons in accordion, fiddle, banjo, whistle, flute, concertina, bodhran, guitar and mandolin. New this year, is traditional singing classes and Irish speaking classes.

Each year there are many events for pupils to participate in such as regular sessions, SCT Traditional Music exams, competitions and concerts. Regular workshops for certain instruments take place every three weeks to enhance each pupil’s technical skills. We are very fortunate in our branch as we have a very big number of young pupils learning music which should ensure that our branch will be strong and active for many more years.
