The Drogheda branch of Comhaltas was founded in 1969 and has a membership of approximately 70 people. They range in age from 6 to over 80 and come from a radius of approximately 10 miles from Drogheda. They come from all walks of life and a welcome is given to anybody with an interest in Irish culture. Drogheda Comhaltas meets every Tuesday night in the Holy Family Community Centre, Ballsgrove where they hold Céile, Set Dancing and Traditional Music classes as well as music sessions. Each week they also try to promote the Irish language through informal ranganna gaeilge.

A special feature of the branch is the monthly Open Sessions which are held on the second Tuesday of every month. these sessions are given to a different charity each month and throughout the years have raised much needed funds for many local organisations. The branch regularly put on shows and presented Seisiún in Drogheda for 7 years.

Several of our members take part in competitions at both county and provincial level and regularly attend Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. We also make it a point to visit other branches of Comhaltas and have hosted branches from Carrickmacross, Monaghan and Dublin on several occasions. Members also take an active part at both county board and provincial council level. They also attend national seminars and meetings of Comhaltas.

International Activities

Our branch is also invloved in many activities. The group have travelled to Sweeden, France, Spain and Holland where they have represented Ireland at various festivals. They have also hosted groups from Spain and Scotland. In june 2007 forty five members of the branch will travel to Inis Oirr for a cultural weekend.
