Gnéithe

Derrylin Branch C.C.É was formed in 1961. It was the first permanent branch in County Fermanagh. The first County Board meeting was held in Erne Ballroom, Derrylin (now Mountview Bar/lounge) on 7th June 1963. By this time there were five branches in the county. On the 13th of June 1963 the first county demonstration, under the auspices of Fermanagh C.C.É, was held in Gaelic Park, Derrylin where traditional musicians and artistes assembled from many parts of the county to provide a feast of music, song and dancing. Our present branch known as St. Ninnidh C.C.É Derrylin was formed in 2001 under the tuition of music teacher Mr. Dinny Leonard. Our group has a strong senior and junior membership and classes are held weekly by Mrs Janette Mongan and Miss Catherine Dunne, taking the two age groups. We also have as members Mr. and Mrs. McManus. John is well known throughout the country for his contribution to traditional music. John and Valerie both feature on the “Hidden Fermanagh” traditional music CD launched a couple of years ago. John also tutors junior and senior members of our group on the fiddle. Valerie his wife also contributes to our group by giving traditional singing and bodhrán lessons. The Derrylin CCE hosted the Fermanagh Fleadh in 2003 and what a wonderful occassion it was for young and old. We in Derrylin CCE strive to keep the traditional music alive within our community and hope our branch goes from strength to strength.
