ComhaltasLive #207 - 1: Carmel O’Dea

From Ballynacally in West Clare, fiddle player Carmel O’Dea has the dinstinction of having played with three of Clare’s great Céilí Bands - Ennis Céilí Band, the Kilfenora and the Turloughmore. Carmel performed at the Fleadh Nua in Ennis in 2004 and recorded these two reels for ComhaltasLive.

She learned the first tune from P.J. Crotty and James Cullinane and the second is one of her own compositions called “The Ballcarrier’s Reel”. Carmel is a popular member of the groups Fiddlesticks and Galldubh. Incidentally, Fleadh Nua 2007 takes place in Ennis from 20th to 28th May.

Well done Carmel, lovely fiddle playing and as for the “newly composed”, I hope there’s more where that came from!

I got to meet Carmel a few years back when she was here in the states (Ohio).  Think “Red Violin” Carmel & I think you’ll remember…
Good to hear her play again after so long.
A really nice & genuine person who I am glad to have met and hung with between sets.
