ComhaltasLive #208 - 2: John Burke

John and Joan Burke have been two of the stalwarts in the development of Comhaltas in London over the decades. Up to her sad and untimely passing in October 2006 Joan had been engaged in the planning and preparations for the 50th Anniversary celebration of the West London Branch. Their sons John and Aidan, both (in very contrasting styles) playing fiddles made by John senior, conducted workshops on fiddle-playing techniques and performed at the concert. Joined by his wife Carmel on button accordion, John played this selection of slides, “Mickey O’Callaghan’s” and “If I Had a Wife.”

Dear Comhaltas,
I enormously enjoy the daily live performances, hardly miss a one.  It is a great idea and use of the web.  I recently requested notation from a tune on one occasion and was very kindly (by Breandan Knowlton) obliged.  Would it be possible to routinely publish them as a feature of the site?  Thanks so very much for a great contribution.
