ComhaltasLive #211 - 2: John Burke Sr., fiddle maker
John Burke (senior) emigrated from his native Co. Sligo to England in 1951 and with his wife, the late Joan Burke, joined the Comhaltas movement. Their contribution to the promotion of Irish music and culture has been immense and in the last ten years John has been very successful in the craft of fiddle making.
Here John gives a brief account of his involvement in fiddle making.

I am very proud to have John Burke as my father he has been an inspiration to everyone around him and he has now also made Fiddles for my two children Siobhan and Ryan who are still playing them now. May his great work continue as he has two more to make for my younger children Callam and Sinead.

Hi Sean,
Congratulations! Your quiet sincerity, and hard work are coming to fruition at last. The love of Irish Music is well entrenched in your three children and four grandchildren. I credit this to Joan R.I.P. and yourself. This exposure is still alive and well. Last summer, I heard Aunt Chriss lilting traditional tunes to Calan and Sinead while they played the tin whistle. Siobhain was off by herself practicing the accordian.
Batty said he thought it was great to hear your voice coming through the internet.
He is looking forward to seeing you in Ireland in a few weeks. B. & T.

Lovely John from Sligo,
Always had a happy glow,
His spirit will always be with us,
Wherever we may go;
Now in heaven above,
Sending us lots of love,
With God blessing us all the time,
Providing us with peace, joy, music and sunshine.

What a lovely surprise. Great to see you on the internet, John.
Very best wishes to you.
