This week we bring you tutors and ensembles from the Meitheal Residential Summer School, as well as the past winners of some upcomingng Fleadhanna.

00.00 Well known concert flute player Garry Shannon plays “The Independence Hornpipe” followed by “The Sligo Polka”. Garry is co-ordinator of the Meitheal Residential Summer School 2007 which takes place in Limerick City from 16th to 20th of July. Participants from Ireland and overseas experience eight days of total immersion in all aspects of the music under the guidance of eight internationally renowned tutors. On Friday 20th July the final concert of tutors and participants takes place in the Millenium Theatre, Limerick. Tickets are available by phone at +353 876704465. 04.10 One of the tutors at the Meitheal Residential Summer School 2007 is fiddle player Denis Liddy who is also a leading member of the famed Turloughmore Céilí Band from Ennis, co. Clare. This is a selection of jigs played by the band when they took first place in the Munster Fleadh in 2005.
06.34 The Allow Céilí Band from Co. Cork playing the reels “Lad O’Byrne’s” and “The Green Mountain” at the Munster Fleadh in 2005 when they took second place.
08.58 Taking 3rd place in the Munster Fleadh 2005, the Castleconnell/Ahane CCÉ Céilí Band from Limerick included this hornpipe in their selection.
10.56 The Munster Fleadh Cheoil 2007 takes place in Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick 20th to 22nd of July. One of the special features of the Fleadh is a concert featuring many of West Limerick’s ouststanding musicians and singers over the decades. The concert wll be held on Wednesday 18th July at Courtenay Lodge Hotel, Newcastlewest and will be recorded by ComhaltasLive. Fleadh information at http://www.munsterfleadh.com. Concert flute player Donie O’Sullivan from Carrickerry and button accordionist Donie Nolan from Kilcoleman are two of the many artisits taking part. This is a selection of jigs played by them in January 2005.
14.15 Another of West Limerick’s outstanding musicians is fiddle player Patricia Wright from Dromcolldgher who plays this lovely hornpipe composed by Paddy Fahy which is this week’s Tutorial.
16.16 The Leinster Fleadh takes place this weekend (13th to 15th July 2007) at Athboy, Co. Meath. At the Leinster Fleadh 2005, 2nd place in the Senior Céilí Band competition went to Na Commarsanna Céilí Band from Dublin, who played this selection of reels ending with “The Swallow’s Nest” by Paddy O’Brien. Featured in one of the audience shots is Stephen Conroy who has since passed to his eternal reward. Stephen’s life was dedicated to promoting traditional Irish music and culture, particularly in his native Camross, Co. Laois.
18.24 Winners at the Céilí Band competition at the Leinster Fleadh in 2005 were the Fleann na Coille Céilí Band, Dublin who included this selection of jigs in their performance.
