ComhaltasLive #222 - 4: Francis O’Connor

One of the highlights of the 2007 Munster Fleadh was the concert which featured many of the great West Limerick artists from over the decades. The famous Seán Ó Sé was “Fear a’ Tí” for the night and here he introduces one of West Limerick’s outstanding flute players: Francis O’Connor from Ardagh. Francis plays two reels - the first he learned from the playing of Paddy Taylor and the second he associates with Co. Sligo.

Thank you for the great clip. If I’m not mistaken, the tunes are called:

The Bush in Bloom
Lord Moira (aka. Bonnie Scotland)

The second one is often played as a fling, but a really nice tune as a reel too!

What kind of flute is Francis playing in this video? There is a fantastic tone off it. His playing is class too!
