ComhaltasLive #237 - 5: The Legendary Bobby Gardiner on Melodeon

Legendary accordion player Bobby Gardiner plays a hornpipe, a jig and a reel on melodeon at the Peig Ryan Tribute Concert. Bobby, currently a member of the Brú Ború Troupe in Cashel, Co. Tipperary, lived in the USA during the 1960s.

The programme concludes with a presentation to Peig Ryan by Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú, Director-General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, in recognition of Peig’s lifetime of preserving and promoting Irish musical traditions and influencing so many others in music-making. Many tributes were also made to Peig’s late husband Mick, fondly remembered for his contribution to singing and set dancing in particular.

The Chairman of the concert organising committee was Tómas Ó Maoldomhnaigh, Peig’s nephew and Árdrúnaí of Comhaltas. Tómas is also a member of the Cappamore/Murroe Seisiún Group and father of banjo player Marcus.

great playing by Bobby Gardiner. I think he’s the best in Ireland. I’d like the sheet music for one of his hornpipes. The North Shore. Can you help?
