Recorded at the North American Comhaltas Convention in Parsippany, New Jersey in April 2004, Felix Dolan provides piano accompaniment for accordion player Billy McComiskey. Billy plays two tunes of his own composition which he names after his two grandmothers “Nora Sweeney’s” and “Elizabeth Cullen’s”, which is this week’s tutorial.

Thank you for taping Billy’s playing who taught me how to play the box, so it was grand to listen to him play his own tunes and hear Sean’s gray box.

Bill is one of the great accordion players. Tommy Coen the great fiddle player and composer (christmas eve) first told me about him and said he heard him playing in Spiddal in the early 80’s. Too bad Billy that you had to cross the water so many times to win the All Ireland which you should have won at your first attempt.

Poor Billy! Must have been quite emotional for him playing those two tunes. In spite of that, his playing didn’t suffer! Lovely tunes.
