From Ballymote, Co. Sligo, the Hurley family — Dermot on guitar, Deirdre on whistle and Eileen on banjo — play a set of jigs: “The Galway Miner’s Jig” (also called “Tommy Mulhaire’s”) and “Deirdre Hurley’s Jig”, which was composed by their father, Michael.

Interesting to see the Hurley family having played a few times in sessions with the other sister Mairead [who is phenomenal on concertina] in Dublin.

Their father Michael is actually from Leeds, West Yorkshire. His brother Des Hurley, who is a great fiddle player still based in Leeds, once told me that their family has its origins in Mayo and East Galway.
