ComhaltasLive #286-1: Caitríona Sears at Clasaċ

This week we present a few recordings made at the new and magnificent Clasaċ theatre, a Regional Resource Centre of Comhaltas in Dublin, one of the venues for the Irish Concert Tour in October 2008.

Prior to the concert, this selection of reels was played by Dublin fiddle player Caitríona Sears, one of the fourteen musicians, singers and dancers who performed in the tour through the four provinces. Caitríona holds two All-Ireland titles in fiddle, and also teaches music.

Caitriona is by far one of the top fiddle players in Ireland. I have heard her live so many times and she never fails to overwhelm me.

She is an extremely talented young musician and I really look forward to hearing her more and more in the future.

Lovely playing. The two reels are compositions of American (Washington DC) musician Leslie Harris, and are called “The Torrid Romance” and “P.J. McComiskey’s"--that last tune being named for the son of the well-known Irish-American accordion player Billy McComiskey. Leslie wrote a third reel called “The Boys from Chicago,” and all three tunes were recorded as a set by Liz Carroll and Billy McComiskey on their first “Trian” album in 1992.

great stuff. Saw Catriona on the Echoes of Erin tour in Cardiff and was blown away by how good she is...perfect blend of technique and feeling
