ComhaltasLive #287-1: Button Accordion player Ned Kelly
Ned Kelly, All-Ireland senior button accordion champion in 1992, from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, plays a seleciton of reels: “Eddie Kelly’s”, composed by fiddle player Eddie Kelly, and “The Dawn”. The music was recorded in 2003 and features Ned playing a G/G# accordion which was tuned by accordion maker & tuner Tom Lawlor, also from Nenagh.

Lovely music and a sweet tone ,I rem starting and playing like that as a kid ,its great to see that Ned still plays like that in a good traditional style and not let the modern music change him ,keep it up

I just came upon this website and was glad I did.I’ve been to 2 Fleadh’s,one in 8/91 and last in 8/93 and loved it.I’m from NY ,my father’s a ceili drummer,Jimmy Kelly Sr.,he’s drummed w/the Tulla when they’ve been out here and he’s been to the late,great Paddy O’Brien’s hometown in Nina,Tipp. and listened to a seisun w/him and the late,great Aggie White so it was cool to see her grandson playing the fiddle here on this website.Ned Kelly’s got a real smooth style in my opinion,they’re both great!I used to take box lessons from John Nolan,NY who won All-Ireland in 1982,a decade before Ned Kelly!? Small world.Well thanks for the great tunes,yours in Irish music,AnnaMaryRivet.(nee Kelly).

Ned, saw you play back in Sudbury Ontario twelve years ago… your playing is even better. Small world, my cousin and her children have now taken music lessons from you in Tipperary.
