ComhaltasLive #304-1: The 2009 Scoil Éigse Tutors’ Concert

From the Scoil Éigse Tutors’ Concert at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2009, a selection of reels played by a group of the tutors. They play “The Moving Pint” and “Dog Big and Dog Little”, which were recorded by Frankie Gavin in the 1980s.

The tutors are: Pádraig McGovern from Co. Leitrim, pipes; Oisín MacDiarmada (fiddle) and Maíre NicDhiarmada (flute), both from Co. Sligo; Pádraig King from Co. Limerick, accordion; Sabina McCague from Co. Monaghan, fiddle; Maura Walsh form Co. Kerry, concertina and Eileen Gannon from St. Louis, Missouri, USA, on the harp.

That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what we call SWING! Absolutely brilliant, bubbly, bouncy playing by all involved. I wish the younger crowd would follow their example. I hear a lot of amazing virtuosity out of the new generation, but little in the way of soul, swing & heart. I hope someday they get it…
