Three things:

First, I want to express my deep sadness at the passing of Brian Prior.  We have visited Ireland three times during the past four years and meeting Brian was one of the highlights. 

Second, I want to express my real appreciation that these ComhaltasLive recordings continue on line.  It seems they were erratic for a while.  But they are very important and appreciated.

Third, you mention above “an old style of fiddle tuning”.  Please, can you tell me what notes the strings are tuned to in that style?

A very smooth performance from this excellent group, well done, up Leitrim!

The style of tuning (I think!) is E’AEA (i.e. the bottom two strings tuned up a note). This is the same tuning as used by say Patrick Kelly from Clare in his version of the Foxhunters Reel.

Secondly, I think this band deserves huge credit for playing tunes from their locality. It is something that very few bands do nowadays. I hope they continue to do so.
