One of the longest-running annual concerts of Irish traditional music must surely be the Mullahoran Concert in Co. Cavan, organised every year by fiddle player Antón Mac Gabhann. The 2008 concert, the 39th since its inception in 1969, takes place on Sunday 30th March.
This week we feature some of the music from the 2007 event.

We present a set of Jigs: “The Trip to Athlone” and the Junior Crehan tune “An Lorgadán” played by Anne-Marie Grogan (flute), Caitlín Ní Gabhann (concertina) and Ailish Carolan (fiddle) from Ashbourne, Co. Meath. “An Lorgadán” is this week’s tutorial. The music was recorded at the 2007 Mullahoran Concert in County Cavan.

A selection of reels by the MacGabhann family from Ashbourne, Co. Meath. Antón (fiddle), Seán (button accordion), Caitlín (concertina) and Bernadette (fiddle) MacGabhann play, accompanied by Philip Clarke of Co. Cavan on piano. Some lovely old-style dancing is provided by Bernie, Caítlín and Bernadette.
The reels include “Caitlín’s Reel”, “The Dancing Girl from Clare”, “Boys of Ballysodare” and “The Five-Mile Chase.” The music was recorded at the 2007 Mullahoran Concert in County Cavan.
