The Foinn Seisiún books and CDs were created in order to give players of Irish Traditional Music a good grounding in standard session sets. Though we’d never claim that this list of tunes and sets is authoritative, learning these will be enough for you to sit in on many sessions around the world. We developed the sets based on our own sessions at the Comhaltas headquarters in Monkstown, and on the CDs we’ve kept to a “moderate” session speed to facilitate learning. While these tunes are meant to played in sets (and can be played from the CDs a set at a time), we’ve also divided up the CD tracks at the boundaries of individual tunes. While this can lend a strange “suddenness” to playing isolated tracks, it greatly facilitates the player learning from the books and CDs together.
