Uachtarán Éamonn Ó hArgáin 2021 – 2024

Éamonn Ó hArgáin is a native of Lixnaw, Co. Kerry and is living in Sutton, Co. Dublin.

A former staff member with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann he joined Bord na Gaeilge in 1980 and held senior positions with the Bord until the establishment of Foras na Gaeilge, under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement, in 1999.

He was Director of Development Services and Board Secretary of Foras na Gaeilge for 21 years.

He held various positions with Comhaltas and was a member of the Ardchomhairle for five years in the 90’s. He was elected President of Comhaltas in 2021.

Éamonn is a Non-Executive Director of TG4.

He is Chairman of Kerry County Council’s Irish Language Advisory Committee, a Board member of the Brú Ború Cultural Centre, a member of An Garda Síochána’s Strategic Working Group on Irish and a member of Glór na nGael’s Audit and Risk Committee.

A former Board member of Siamsa Tíre and the Cultural Relations Committee at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Éamonn was the Joint-Chairman of the Advisory Committee on the Irish language at the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Éamonn served on the following groups and organisations; 

  • The Steering Group on Irish in the local authority Service at the Department of the Environment,
  • The Departmental Committee for drafting a Language-Based Strategy for the Arts,
  • The Advisory Group on Rural Development Policy at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development,
  • Chairman of the North Kerry Literary and Cultural Centre Committee in Dublin,
  • The Board of Glór na nGael,
  • Chairman of Scoil Neasáin, Dublin,
  • The Board of Manor House School, Dublin,
  • Vice-Chairman, Chairman, Vice-President and President of the Kerry Association in Dublin
  • A member of the European Cultural Foundation,
  • Secretary of the Pearse Foundation,
  • Founder and Editor of the journal, An Ríocht.
