Ceolta Sí sailing to Wales

Ceolta Sí, the senior performing group of Craobh Eochaille CCÉ are setting sail again, this time taking the boat to Wales to take part in the Tegeingl Festival.

Tegeingl is a brand new Folk Festival in Mold on the 15th-16th August, 2008. Tegeingl will be a festival of traditional performance arts. The festival will reflect the rich art and folk culture that has developed and survived in the land of the Decangli across the centuries. Tegeingl / Flintshire’s location on the border with the ebb and flow of cultures has contributed to the rich and unique mixture of history, heritage and art found here.

The festival will be an open door that visitors form near and far can step through to experience the best of Welsh entertainment and culture. It will also provide a stage in Wales for artists from across the world. Local folk dances, tunes and tales from our region will feature side by side with those from other cultures.

There will be a wide range of craft stalls, gifts and local produce as well as musical instruments and music: something for everyone!

Ceolta Sí are experienced travellers having represented Ireland at festivals as far away as Mexico and China in recent times. The group are in the middle of a busy summer season with packed audiences for the month of August at The Mall Arts Centre, Youghal. Amongst the travelling party for Tegeingl is Artistic Director of Ceolta Sí Daithí Kearney who has also overseen the development of Seisiún na nÓg at Brú na Sí featuring the talents of the junior group Lár na Cruinne. Along with teacher Louise Keating and branch secretary Mary Treacy, Daithí brought a number of members of Lár na Cruinne to the Czech Republic in July to take part in a European Youth Network Project entitled ‘Music and Folklore are Connecting Us III’. In addition the branch has launched a new website, www.ceoltasi.ie and is preparing for the extension of the Comhaltas Outreach Centre, Brú na Sí.

We hope to see you at one of our performances. See www.tegeingl.com for more information on the festival or www.ceoltasi.ie for more information on the branch.
