It’s Cavan for the Fleadh !!!

FLEADH 2010 FOR CAVAN TOWN

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann has been allocated to Cavan Town for 2010. The decision was made by the Ardchomhairle of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann meeting on Saturday, 12th September.

The Fleadh is expected to attract up to 250,000 people to the area and generate up to £30M for the region. The event will run for nine days commencing on August 16th and will involve over 10,000 traditional performers.

The Ardstiúrthóir of Comhaltas, Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú said: “This will be an historic visit to the Ulster venue as the Fleadh was first held in Cavan in 1954. It will provide an opportunity of presenting the diverse traditions of the region in this great celebration of Irish culture with people attending from all over the world.”

Cavan County Manager, Jack Keyes who is heading up the Fleadh application said: “It is a great honour for Cavan to be selected to host this prestigious cultural festival. We will leave no stone unturned to justifiy the confidence placed in us by Comhaltas. This is a great cultural, social and economic boost for our Region.”
