FleadhFest is the story of Comhaltas told from the point of view of each County and Province - the story of the people, community and culture which sustains our traditions of music, song, dance, storytelling and language, ensuring it is a living tradition which can be passed on to future generations. The popular Fleadh Cheoil series will return to our screens on April 5th 2019 with 6 programmes showcasing the best of Irish Traditional Music from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018. As Drogheda hosts the competition for the first time, John Creedon returns to the helm and is joined this year by the well known and talented musician and singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh from Dingle in County Kerry.

Last summer, many thousands from all over the world were back in the midlands, this time in Tullamore for the third year in a row, and this series of six half hours programmes captures the fun, excitement and good music that happens each year at this truly international music event. The Fleadh Cheoil series is presented by John Creedon and Breda Smyth and the six part series starts on RTE 1 on Friday 9th April at 7.30pm.

- Monaghan winners at Fleadh

The sun was out at last Saturday’s All-Ireland Fleadh Ceoil in Tullamore as the county’s young traditional musicians shone brightly themselves in the prestigious traditional music competitions. Monaghan secured four All-Ireland titles and many placings at the traditional music festival with wins in the harp, mandolin, piano and bodhrán competitions.

In 2009 the town celebrates not only the re-establishment of a very vibrant Branch of Comhaltas but also the centenary of the founding of the world renowned Kilfenora Céilí Band in 1909! See members of this legendary céilí band on Wednesday night in Linnane’s Bar and also again on Saturday night where they will provide music for dancers in the Community Hall.

- Ennis Under Siege for Fleadh Nua

Fleadh Nua kicks off with a record breaking Siege of Ennis on Sunday, 17th May. Cork set a world record In September, 2005 when 8,371 dancers danced the Siege of Ennis for 5 minutes continuously. Fleadh Nua (appropriately in Ennis), in conjunction with the Special Olympics, expects to break this record.
To motivate the dancers (if this were necessary in the Banner County) music will be provided by Clare’s own Kilfenora Céilí Band.

The town of Tullamore, Co. Offaly has been officially selected as the site of the 2009 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. I think everyone who joined us at the Fleadh this year will join in thanking our hosts for such a lovely event, and join us in wishing them well for the coming year’s festival. The Scoil Éigse summer school will take place in Tullamore from 16 - 21 August, 2009, and Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2009 will take place on the weekend of 21 - 23 August, 2009.

The Senior Céilí Band competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is always one of the most watched and anticipated annual events on the Irish music calendar. We’re here down in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, the host city for this year’s Fleadh Cheoil, and I’ve just watched the last band leave the stage. The standard was fantastic. A special thank-you goes to our hosts in Tullamore for making the Fleadh, once again, a special, exciting and safe event for so many thousands of visitors.

Last year’s event was fantastic with over 2,700 musicians taking part but this year they aim to go one better and break this record. The Official Opening of Fleadh Laighean 2008 will be held in Amharclann Naithí - Ballinteer, Dublin at 8.00pm tonight (Friday 11th July). Music will be by Craobh Naithí and Ceoltóirí Óga Laighean.

A very special concert takes place in Cois na hAbhna on Wednesday night featuring Seán Ó Sé and the Turloughmore Céilí Band.
The band is from Clare and the name is inspired by the landscape and geology of the northern part of the County. The music reflects the styles of County Clare. Together with the legend that is Seán Ó Sé the night will consist of the presentation of a series of songs in both Irish and English drawn from their new recording.
