Ceol an Geimhridh is organised by Comhairle na Mumhan to provide a competition outlet for young competitors during the Winter months. COMHAIRLE NA MUMHAN CCÉ ==================== CEOL AN GHEIMHRIDH 2011/2012 RULES ============================ AIMS – (A) To establish standards – (B) To provide inter branch activity – (C) To involve as many as possible of the branch members. MUSIC COMPETITIONS =============== – (A) WIND – (B) REED – (C) STRING – (D) DUETS – (E) QUARTETTES – (F) CEILI BANDS ( MINIMUM 6, MAXIMUM 10 PERFORMERS shall play two reels in succession, plus one tune from each of two other classes as per Clár na gComórtas) (all wind instruments constitute one competition, and so on) DANCING COMPETITIONS ================= MIXED TEAMS – (A) TRADITIONAL SET ALL GIRLS TEAM – (B) TRADITIONAL SET CÉILÍ DANCING – (C) 4 HAND CÉILÍ DANCE – (D) 8 HAND CÉILÍ DANCE Competitors should note that the objective of the competition is to provide a platform and an outlet for ordinary branch members involved in céilí and set dancing. The emphasis should be on the traditional approach to dancing in costume and footwear. A mixed team – 4 boys & 4 Girls in set dancing. Céilí Dancing Teams may comprise of any combination: any number of boys up to a maximum of 4 and the remainder made up of girls. SINGING ======= – (A) Amhránaíocht ar an sean nós – (B) Traditional songs in English SCÉALAÍOCHT & STORYTELLING ====================== Storytelling in Irish/English AITHRISEOIREACHT/RECITATION ====================== Recitation in Irish/English AGE GROUPS ========== There will be two age groups, Under 13 and 13/17 January 1st of the year in which the competition commences will be regarded as the qualifying date in respect of age limit. (i.e. January 2011 for this year’s competition) Quartette: Under 13 & 13/17 Ceili Bands: Under 17 & may have up to 50% over 17 yrs. In duets & Quartettes, an under 13 competitor may opt for a higher age group but may compete in one age group only for that competition. In 8 Hand ceili and set dancing in the Under 17 grade each team may include two dancers from the Under 13 years competing team. Where no under 13 teams competes, the under 17 team may be comprised of 50% under and 50% over 13 years. PIECES ====== MUSIC 2 pieces as listed in Clár na gComórtas. DANCING Sets: 2 parts of any Munster set (Munster Sets ONLY allowed) Ceili dancing: Body, one figure, & Body SINGING 2 songs one fast and one slow in each competition (note, a song from the competitor’s own county may earn a bonus of 5 marks at the adjudicator’s discretion. – no list required) SCEALÁIOCHT & STORYTELLING A minimum of 4 minutes and a maximum of 8 minutes. AITHRISEOIREACHT/RECITATION OF A POEM • Maximum- 5 minutes • May be as Gaeilge, or in English or Bi-lingual • Poem to be Irish in character or in the Irish language. ELIGIBILITY ======== Confined to affilated members of a Branch. You must be properly affiliated with your local branch at time of entry Competitors must be registered members of the particular level of competition. STRUCTURE ======== The County Board is responsible within the County, Comhairle na Mumhan responsible within the Province QUALIFIERS ========= • 1st and 2nd go forward from a County Regional Final/ semi final to County Final. 1st and 2nd go forward from County to Provincial Final. • No Recommendations will qualify. • Competitors representing a County must perform and qualify within the county prior to the Provincial competition. • This years Munster Final takes place in Hospital, Co. Limerick and Sunday, February 19tht 2012 • ‘Nominations’ are not permissible SUBSTITUTES ========= Substitution is allowed as follows: Quartettes, 4 hands céili dance – ONE substitute allowed. Ceili Bands, Sets & 8 Hands. TWO substitutes allowed. NO SUBSTITUTION IN OTHER COMPETITIONS. FINANCE ======= All competitors will pay an admission fee at all competition venues ADJUDICATION ========== It is recommended as far as possible to have adjudicators drawn from outside the competition area. A brief overall oral adjudication will be required. OBJECTION ======== Any objection on the grounds of non-compliance with the rules should be lodged in writing with the secretary of the organising unit within 3 days of the competition. PRIZES ====== Prizes to be provided for 1st and 2nd in each category RECOMMENDATIONS ============== 1 Co. Board may decide number of entries per Branch for County Competition,. 2 All Dancing Teams must provide their own LIVE Music for their teams.
