Ceoltoiri na Sionainne CD Release

CD Release =========== Ceoltoiri Na Sionnaine – “Rambling Irishman” ============================== Ceoltoiri na Sionnaine have come a long way from our humble beginnings a number of years back, meeting for rehearsals in the University of Limerick. For those we have not been introduced to us, we are the Munster based youth group for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Éireann. It all started out a number of years back when Majella Bartley felt there was a need for young musicians to get together regularly, to have a meeting point other than fleadhanna, for playing and swapping tunes, while meeting new people and making new friends. Since then we have had workshops with many top quality traditional performers and acquiring more knowledge and skills around our traditional arts. We gradually started performing at local gigs and also at the county, provincial and all-Ireland fleadhanna. The weekend of the 13th-16th of October 2006 was the beginning of our cultural exchanges, in which Ceoltoiri na Breatainne travelled to Limerick and Clare for a weekend of music and mayham, culminating in a great concert in Danlann an Chláir. The second half of this exchange took place just last October when we packed our bags and travelled to Glasgow to renew the musicial friendships and recall some selections of tunes! Easter 2007, we boarded on Delta Airlines to travel to Atlanta, Georgia in the USA to perform at the North American Convention of Comhaltas. We spent five action packed days entertaining the crowds with lively sessions and great ceili’s and were sad to be packing up our bags to leave at the end. We did vow however that we would return again across the Atlantic and hopefully that dream will be a reality in the not too distant future! So far this year we have performed at various functions including a memorable concert at Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh in Cappamore, in which we played support act to the superb group Liadán. We also performed in Cashel at the Tipperary Fleadh Cheoil on the main gig rig. We have just returned from a fantastic trip to France in which we performed at a national festival to huge crowds of enthusiastic listeners from all over the globe. Again it was a chance for us to embrace some of our newer members and welcome them to the Ceoltoiri na Sionnaine madness! We have had an action packed summer thus far and on this note we introduce to you our debut C.D. which was released at this years Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan in Kenmare, Co. Kerry. We have put in a huge effort to its production and we hope that you will enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. This album has brought together young performers from all over the province of Munster and has a great mix of traditional tunes, songs and a story for good measure.
