Draíocht LIVE at Dún Uladh

Husband and wife duo, MICHAEL ROONEY & JUNE MC CORMACK, also known as ‘Draíocht’, will appear at Dún Uladh on Friday the 19th of Nov. The pair are veterans of the traditional Irish music scene and have substantial musical credentials. They have already achieved great things individually, including major awards and two acclaimed recordings. The pair first met and performed together at a national Foróige celebration in UCD in 1990 as teenagers. They married in 2004 and have toured extensively as Draíocht, having performed throughout the States, Australia and New Zealand. They are in demand as performers and music tutors on both sides of the Atlantic. June, from Ballintogher, Co Sligo was recipient of the TG4 Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award in 1998 and last year published two Irish flute tutorials in recent years. Michael is widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of the Irish harp in traditional Irish music. Originally from Scotstown, Co. Monaghan, Michael has composed seven major suites of music in the past decade, including an ‘The Battle of the Books Suite’ and ‘Aifreann na Gaeilge’ in 2006. In 2006 he published a book entitled ‘Harp Tunes’, which contains twenty-three of his own compositions.
