The fifth Gerry Whelan Memorial Weekend takes place in Cootehill, Co. Cavan from 18th – 20th September 2009
This Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann event has been organised to remember the late Gerry Whelan.
Gerry was actively involved with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann since the organisation was set up in 1951, and was President of the Ulster Council for a period of thirty years. With his beloved melodeon or bodhran in hand, Gerry liked nothing better than to settle down to a good seisiun.
This memorial event is a fitting tribute to Gerry and provides all lovers of trad with a veritable feast of entertainment which includes:-
A weekend of music sessions, singing and dancing.
A memorial concert on Friday 18th September with Gerry ‘Fiddle’ O’Connor, supported by local & visiting musicians’
Music workshops on Banjo, Fiddle, Accordion and Tin Whistle.
Singing & Storytelling, Pub Sessions, Open Air Sessions, Fíor Céilí.
