The Kitchen Sessions
Clare FM’s Traditional Music Series is back! Tonight we visit Paddy Queally’s kitchen in Fanore.

Last year’s Clare FM radio series of LIVE outside broadcasts of traditional music from homes around Co. Clare captured the imaginations and hearts of audiences around the world. Listeners from near and far bombarded the station with requests for more, so this year the Kitchen Sessions are back with a bang. New kitchens are visited in Clare and also the kitchens of the Co. Clare diaspora living in America.

In an era obsessed with editing and airbrushing, live music radio is increasingly rare. The Kitchen Sessions on Clare FM (96.4 FM Sunday evenings 5 – 7 pm) brings you the real thing. In each kitchen local musicians, singers and dancers come together with neighbours and friends for an evening of music and fun. The series brings the emphasis back to the local and communal in traditional music-making, and away from the technical perfection of today’s CDs and concert performances.

From Mon 12 Jan, you can visit the Kitchen Sessions webpage (www.clarefm.ie) for an enhanced experience of the Sessions. Download the programmes. See pictures of the musicians in action, read their biogs, get extra podcasts of their music and words. Read the blog, send your pictures and comments. Participate!

We kick off on 11th Jan in Paddy Queally’s kitchen in Fanore 18th Jan sees us travelling to Frank Custy’s Toonagh Hall Kitchen 25th Jan brings us to Kilmaley to Conor and Máire Keane’s kitchen. We visit Gerry Dunleavy’s kitchen in Boston on 1 Feb, and Siobhán and Willie Kelly’s kitchen in New Jersey on 8 Feb, before landing back home to round off the series in Clare. Expect a “warts and all” production with the edge and excitement that only the live moment in music-making can bring!

Produced and presented by Paula Carroll, “The Kitchen Sessions” is a Rag and Bone Production for Clare FM. Made with the support of the BCI’s Sound and Vision Scheme and Clare Co. Council Arts Office - the programme is also streamed live and podcast on www.clarefm.ie.
