North Cregg at Brú na Sí

One of Ireland’s most popular traditional music groups, North Cregg will perform in Youghal on Saturday 19th April. Rooted in the vibrant traditional music of their native County Cork, North Cregg embraces musical influences from around the world to create one of the most distinctive and charismatic voices in Irish music.

North Cregg will perform on the new stage at Brú na Sí which adds a new dimension to our concert series. We will also be using new and existing audio-visual technology at Brú na Sí for the event. The branch gratefully acknowledges the support of Meitheal in this initiative. There will also be instrumental workshops during the day.

The stunning vocals of Claire Anne Lynch mesmerise with beautifully crafted interpretations of contemporary and traditional Irish gems. Accordionist and Master of Ceremonies, Christy Leahy, leads the way with spirited tunes alongside the dazzling fiddle and banjo playing of Liam Flanagan. Groove masters Ciaran Coughlan on swing piano and Martin Leahy, on drums and guitar, create one of the tightest and hottest rhythm sections in Irish music.

Together, the North Cregg experience is a finely tuned engine packed with humour, spontaneity and, above all, great music!

With past appearances at prestigious music events such as Glastonbury Festival, Milwaukee Irish Fest, Tønder Festival Denmark, Cambridge Festival, Celtic Connections Glasgow and hundreds more besides, North Cregg are one of the most popular live acts in the world of folk music today.

Brú na Sí is the home of the hugely popular group Ceolta Sí and the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Members come from throughout east Cork and west Waterford to a range of events throughout the year. Both at home and abroad, Ceolta Sí aspires to promote Youghal as Ireland’s finest coastal resort. Always a hive of activity, Brú na Sí is an important landmark for both performances and education.

Brú na Sí is located near Youghal GAA field on Magniers Hill with an entrance from Cork Hill through Blackwater Heights.

The concert, supported by the Meitheal initiative of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, is sure to prove popular so advance booking is advised. Please call Micheál (087) 793 45 04 or Daithí (087 641 90 81 for more information and bookings.

We are already planning for the summer. Seisiún will be back in July. We also hope to launch a CD in July. There are plans for a limited group to visit the Czech Republic in July and Wales in August. The Blackwater Festival will take place in east Cork from the 23rd to the 27th of July and Youghal are set to host a group of Italian folk dancers and musicians in conjunction with Damhsa: The Cork International Folk Dance Festival.
