Celebrate St. Patrick’s night in traditional style with Comhaltas at the Cultúrlann in Monkstown, Co. Dublin. This céilí with the great Fodhla Céilí Band is the best way possible to celebrate our national Saint’s day. A marvellous night of music dance and craic is assured!
The Fodhla (pronounced ‘Fola’) Céilí Band have been playing for céilí dances since 1974 and are widely acclaimed as the finest exponents of the set dance tempos in the country. They are exceptionally skilled at playing jigs, hornpipes and polkas specially tailored to suit set dancing enthusiasts. The Band are led by Brian O’Kane on accordion and his wife Pat (a daughter of the late legendary John Joe Gardiner - The Boss - from Co. Sligo whose early 78 records are now collectors items), on fiddle with their son Darragh on second accordion and Donal Fitzpatrick (drums). Sadly their flute player, Brendan McCabe (originally from Sligo but based in Dublin) passed away in December 2008. This highly acclaimed céilí band bring a new dynamism to Irish Dance music with rhythm and phrasing of the Sligo style of music very evident in their playing.
Brian O’Kane is also renowned for his many compositions down through the years and his marches have proved particularly popular with céilí bands for fleadhanna cheoil competitions.
