Live at “The Blonde’s” Miltown Malbay

The Blonde’s session (Miltown Malbay)celebrated its Silver Jubilee in style on Thursday night 28th February ,when a marathon session was recorded by Clare fm. for broadcast on Joan Hanrahan’s programme , Coisle an Cheoil on Monday March 17th. A teenage group of musicians from Craobh Laichtin Naofa CCE session gave a brilliant performance , as a group and as individual performers . This was followed by what can only be described as a vintage Blonde’s session , from the likes of Michael Falsey , Michael Mahoney , Pete Haugh , Pat Curtin . Pat Reddan , Jesse McNamara , Tony O’Loughlin . Frankie McNamara, Tom O’Sullivan ,Frank Whelan ,Murt Collins , Tony Slattery , Bridie Cleary . Peadar Cleary , Peter Cleary , Joe O’Connor , Claire Commane , Noreen Murrihy ,Marie Healy , Andrew Newland , Martin Vaughan (Former Tulla Ceili Band vocalist) Lorna Maxwell , Michael Burke and many more. Michael Mahony ,who with Pete Haugh set up the session in 1983 , thanked Joan Hanrahan and Pat Costello for recording the session . He also complimented all who have made The Blonde’s session such a success over the years. Joe O’Connor paid tribute to Bridie and Peter Cleary and their family for their hospitality and the warmth of their welcome for performers and visitors over many years. He also recalled with some nostalgia the welcome which was accorded to all when Bridie Cleary’s late father Jack Mahony was proprietor . The session in “TheBlonde’s ” Miltown Malbay continues every Thursday night as it has done for the past 25 years.
