The first meeting of the Leamington branch of Comhaltas was held on 29 November 1989 at St. Patrick’s Club, Adelaide Road, Leamington Spa, under the guidance of Martin Earlis (R.I.P.), who was chair of the Midland Regional board at that time.
The following were elected onto the first committee:
- Chairman: Donal Murphy
- Vice Chair: Denis O’Neill
- Secretary: Mary Scullane
- Treasurer: Breda Dowling
- Delegate: Christopher Sculane
At that time, the branch consisted of twenty adults and twelve children.
Shortly after the branch was formed, music tuition was taught to both adults and children by Mary Cannon. Mary taught in the branch for a number of years.
