Donegal County Fleadh

The Donegal County Fleadh will take place in Letterkenny for the first time since 2001 on the weekend of the 7th, 8th and 9th May. The Fleadh will officially open with a céilí on the Friday night in Bonagee Hall. All Fleadh competitions will take place on Saturday 8th in the LYIT and commence at 11.am. The Marching Bands competitions will be held in the LYIT Carpark starting at 2.00pm. The Fleadh Club session will take place in Gallaghers’ Hotel nightly. Latest date for receipt of competition entries is 28th April and should be sent to Fleadh rúnaí, Mick Foy, Bogay, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Weekly Session

Every Tuesday night in Mc Carry’s Bar, Gallagher’s Hotel, Upper Main St, Letterkenny. This session usually commences at 10.00pm and all traditional musicians are most welcome.

Branch Music Classes

Music classes take place every Tuesday evening from 6.00pm to 9.30pm. Classes are for beginners, intermediate and advanced students and run from September to the end of May. Adult classes take place at 8.30pm on Tues. night also.

Branch teachers are Donna Harkin and Joseph Gibson. Paddy Tunney also gives fiddle classes on behalf of the Branch in St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny.

The Branch operates a Child Protection Policy under the national guidelines of Comhaltas.

Singers’s Night

Organised by the Branch in the Clanree Hotel on the 4th Thursday of every second month from Sept. to May. All traditional singers are most welcome. Future singing sessions will take place on 26th Nov 2009; 28th Jan 2010; 25th March 2010; 27th May 2010. The final singing session of the season will take place on 27th May 2010.

Scoil Earraigh Hughie McGovern

This weekend of traditional music and song has been held annually since 2002 to commemorate the late Hughie McGovern who was the father figure of the Branch. The 2010 Mc Govern Weekend will take place in April and will include a Traditional Singers’Night, Branch concert in an Grianán Theatre, Nightly Sessions, a Traditional Musicians’s Mass, an “Oíche Ghaelach” The Coventry Comhaltas make an annual visit to this event.

Concerts

From time to time the Branch hosts events such as the Comhaltas “Echoes of Erin” Ireland Concert Tour and other traditional performers also. Check this site for updates.
