Monaghan musicians to the fore at All-Ireland Fleadh The sun was out at last Saturday’s All-Ireland Fleadh Ceoil in Tullamore as the county’s young traditional musicians shone brightly themselves in the prestigious traditional music competitions. Monaghan secured four All-Ireland titles and many placings at the traditional music festival with wins in the harp, mandolin, piano and bodhrán competitions. Pride of place went to the Tullycorbett branch of Comhaltas which won two All-Ireland titles. Conor Quinn took the bodhrán honours in the under 12 competition while George McAdam won first place on the mandolin in the 12-15 age group. Also in the 12-15 competitions, Carrickmacross girl Caoimhe Ní Shuibhne carried off the piano title while Eilis Lavelle from the Corcaghan branch of Comhaltas completed the Monaghan wins by winning first in the the 15-18 harp competition. The county was particularly well represented in the group competitions with one second and four third placings.
