This week we present music from Britain and North America, with footage from the 50th Anniversary of Comhaltas in Britain and the 2007 North America Comhaltas Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia.

00:00 Current All-Ireland Under-15 Champion on concert flute Orla McAuliffe from East London Comhaltas plays a selection of reels commencing with a lovely interpretation of “The Moving Cloud.” Orla’s parents are both from Co. Kerry.
04:09 Katie Crean, now Comhaltas Youth Officer for the London Region, played classical music in her early years and then took lessons on concert flute from Brendan Mulkere, developing a deep interest in traditional music and singing. On harp, Katie plays the very old air “The Gentle Maiden”. Her parents are from Tralee, Co. Kerry.
06:07 From West London Comhaltas, Michael Gaughan, who is the current All-Ireland Senior Champion on banjo, plays a selection of reels. Michael comes from a musical family and both his parents are from Co. Mayo.
09:17 Button accordionist and fiddle players Carmel and John Burke have played a major role in the promotion of traditional music in Britain over the years. They play a selection of tunes commencing with “O’Kane’s Hornpipe” and continue with a selection of reels which ends with “The Killavil Fancy”. “O’Kanes Hornpipe” is this week’s Tutorial. Recorded at the West London 50th Anniversary concert, MC Oliver Mulligan pays a short tribute to John’s mother, the late Joan Burke, for her extraordinary work in promoting Irish music over the decades.
14:16 Moving now to the North America Comhaltas Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia from 11th to 15th April 2007, this is an informal selection of jigs played by Margie Mulvihill Reynolds and John Reynolds from Pearl River, New York on flute and fiddle, and Paul Wells from Tennessee.
17:02 A fiddle and flute duet by John Reynolds and Marjie Mulvihill Reynolds from Pearl River, New York. They play a selection of reels commencing with “Palmer’s Gate”, composed by Joe Liddy, and “The Laurel Tree”. This segment was recorded at the 2007 North America Comhaltas Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia from 11th to 15th April 2007.
