This week, we bring you Joannie Madden and Daithí Sproule, some items from the 2007 Comhaltas Concert Tour of Ireland and sessions from Fleadh Cheoil 2007.

00:00 One of the queens of the tin whistle, Joannie Madden plays a selection of reels commencing with “The High Reel” and concluding with a recent composition by Joannie called “Shoot When the Ducks are Flying”. Guitar accompaniment is by Daithí Sproule. We made this recording at the 2007 Comhaltas American Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia. Incidentally, the next Convention will be held in Parsippany in March of 2008.
03:21 Fiddle player with the recent Comhaltas Concert Tour of Ireland, Eibhlín Healy from West Limerick here plays two reels at the concert in Birr, Co. Offaly: ‘In memory of Coleman” which is this week’s tutorial and “Phyllis’ Birthday” composed by Josephine Marsh.
06:07 Banjo player Brona Graham played this selection of reels on the 2007 Comhaltas concert tour of Ireland. Brona is from CCÉ Loughbeg, Co. Antrim.
08:36 A selection of tunes commencing with “The Bee’s Wing” hornpipe and continuing with “Jackson’s Reel” by All-Ireland Senior Duet Champions for 2007, Tara Breen and Cathal Mac An Rí from CCÉ Doora/Barefield, Co. Clare.
12:05 A selection of reels from an indoor session at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2007 in Tullamore, played by Teresa Larkin from Roscrea (fiddle), Eddie Whelan from Birr (guitar), Jim Lalor from Nenagh (flute) and his brother Tom (accordion). Tom is well known for his skills in tuning and servicing accordions. Indeed, Tom made the accordion he plays in this session.
15:44 We conclude the programme with a selection of three reels played at the Scoil Éigse Master Tutors’ Concert at Fleadh 2007 by Angelina Carberry and Martin Quinn on banjo and button accordion. The reels are “Mc Carthy’s Reel”, “The Widow’s Daughter” and “The Strokestown Reel”.
