00:00 A ComhaltasLive favourite, here is a concert flute duet by Kevin Crawford (of Lúnasa fame) and Liam Ó Riada which was recorded at the inaugural Meitheal Residential Summer School in 2004. They play a selection of reels commencing with the “Mossy Banks.” Full details on the 2008 summer school are available from the co-ordinator Gary Shannon at http://www.tradweek.com. 02:52 A ComhaltasLive favourite, here is a selection of reels from the band “Fingal”, with James Keane on button accordion, Randal Bays on fiddle and Daithí Sproule on guitar. This music was recorded at the Comhaltas North American Convention in Atlanta, Georgia in April 2007. The reels are: “Land of Sunshine” (composed by Martin Mulhaire), “Capel St.” and “Hughie Travers’ Reel”. Note that Jame si playing the Castagnari Keanebox accordion — more information at . 07:51 A favourite ComhaltasLive clip, here are two reels composed by Josephine Keegan: “The Gates of Mullagh” (which is this week’s tutorial) and “Ronnie Cooper’s”. The tunes were played by 2004 All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Champion Mícheál Ó Rourke and button accordionist Larry Gavin,both from Tulla, Co. Clare. Piano accompaniament is by Deirdre McSherry from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. This clip originally appeared in ComhaltasLive Programme #207, highlighting music from Fleadh Nua.
10:39 A ComhaltasLive favourite clip, here are two jigs learned from the playing of harper and composer Mícheál Rooney, played on fiddle by Erin McGeown from Lurgan, Co. Armagh. Erin is joined on guitar by Deirdre Murray from Toome, Co. Antrim. This clip originally appeared in ComhaltasLive #197, the first programme posted on the new website.
13:19 Five fiddlers with a selection of reels: “The Bird in the Bush” and the “Skylark”. The musicians are Bernadette and Antón Mac Gabhann from Co. Meath, Emma Woods and Anne Marie McGowan (a former ComhaltasLive presenter) from Dublin and Gary Lynch, now a music lecturer at the University of Limerick. They were recorded at Fleadh Nua, a music festival held in Ennis, Co. Clare. This clip originally appeared in ComhaltasLive Programme #202, highlighting the fiddler Antón Mac Gabhann.
16:25 Concluding the programme with another ComhaltasLive favourite, here is a selection of four reels by Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh from Meath (concertina) and Danny O’Mahoney from Co. Kerry (button accordion). They were recorded at the annual Scoil Éigse summer music school. This clip originally appeared in ComhaltasLive Programme #227, highlighting music from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2007.
