This week we bring you some Slow Airs and dance tunes from several notable musical families.

00:00 A selection of jigs commencing with the four-part version of “The Maid at the Spinning Wheel” played by Martin Ryan (button accordion) from Newport, Co. Tipperary, Marcus Maloney (banjo) from Cappamore, Co. Limerick and Martin’s brother Noel (guitar). All three are now living in Ennis, Co. Clare.
04:49 Accordion maestro Bobby Gardiner joined by Marcus Maloney on banjo with a selection of reels: “Sporting Nell” and “The Maids of Castlebar”. Bobby concludes the selection by lilting “The Boys of Ballysodare”.
09:24 Well known singer/musician Muireann Nic Amhlaoimh plays the great Limerick air “Lament for Staker Wallace” on concert flute.
13:24 The famous Rowsome family from Dublin with two jigs: “The Clare Jig” which is this week’s [tutorial] ( “The Clare Jig - Sheet Music”) and “The Leitrim Jig”. On uilleann pipes – Kevin, grandson of the great piping master Leo Rowsome, Kevin’s wife Lorraine Hickey on fiddle, their daughter Tiarna also on fiddle, Helena and Olivia Rowsome on whistle and piano respectively. They were recorded at the annual Tionól Leo Rowsome held at Comhaltas headquarters, Cultúrlann na hÉireann in September 2007. This concert was a special tribute concert to Pádraig Ó Ceallaigh, former President of Comhaltas.
15:42 From another great musical family, Limerick uileann piper and pipe maker Mickey Dunne plays the slow air love song “An Ciarraíoch Mallaithe” followed by the O’Carolan composition in jig time, “Planxty Browne”.
