Item Information
1 A group of 13 traditional musicians, all students in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, Dublin, recorded there on 20th November 2014, play a selection of jigs - “The Frost is All Over” and “The Young Fair Maidens”. Sincere thanks to Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín and her colleagues and well-known composer John Buckley who outlines the college’s music policy (at the end of the selection of jigs) for their help in organising the recording and making it such a pleasant occasion. The musicians are: Front row left-to-right: Mary O’Donnell (Donegal), John Traynor (Monaghan), Mark Swain (Westmeath), Sarah Meehan (Dublin), Evan Cunniffe (Roscommon), Niamh Molloy (Galway), Paul O’Sullivan (Wexford). Back row left-to-right: Deirdre Barry (Mayo), Cliona Henry (Sligo), Kate Byrne (Leitrim), Emer McCague (Monaghan), Catherine McGinley (Donegal), Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín (Mayo).
2 “Morning Thrush” reel played by Aoife Ní Argáin, Cill Fhionntáin, Dublin when she took third place in the Senior Concertina Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo.
3 Taking third place in the Under-18 Trios Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo, Catherine Lamb (flute), Eileen Murphy (harp) and Caoimhe Kilkenny (Fiddle) from CCÉ Castlebar, Co. Mayo play the jig “The Blooming Meadows”.
4 The reel “Paddy Lynn’s Delight” played in the Under-18 Trios Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo by Shauna Ní Chuilinn (flute), Orla Ní Chionnaith (concertina) and Gráinne Ní Mhaolagáin (harp), from CCÉ Tireragh, Sligo.
5 From New Jersey, USA, Tim Clauss (flute), John Paul Wick (concertina) and Séamus Wick (fiddle) play “The Birmingham Reel” in the Under-18 Trios Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo.
6 Hornpipe played by Claire Deighan (flute), Marie Therese Deighan (fiddle) and David Browne (piano accordion) in the Under-18 Trios Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo. They are from Irish Minstrels CCÉ, Glasgow, Scotland.
7 All-Ireland Under-18 Trio Champions 2014, Claire Fennell (flute), Clara Mannion (concertina) and Sarah O’Gorman (fiddle) play a jig — “The Second Victory” (by Paddy O’Brien) in the competition. They are from CCÉ Craobh na gCumarach , Co. Waterford.
8 Reel played in the competition by All-Ireland Under-18 Trio Champions 2014 — Claire Fennell (flute), Clara Mannion (concertina) and Sarah O’Gorman (fiddle) from CCÉ Craobh na gCumarach, Co. Waterford.
9 The All-Ireland winning newly composed tune for 2014, a jig called “Samphire Island” played on concertina by its composer Donagh McElligott, CCÉ, Lixnaw, Co. Kerry at a session at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo.
10 At a street session at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014 in Sligo, sisters Catherine (flute) and Anne Marie (concertina) Bell from Sligo are joined by Mayo fiddle player Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín for a selection of jigs - “Christy Barry’s” and “The Maid on the Green”.
