515.01 “The honeymoon Reel” played by a large group of musicians from many parts of North America and Ireland at one of the many sessions at the Comhaltas North America Convention in Chicago, USA, in April 2017.
515.02 From 6 different countries, a group of 10 musicians from University of Limerick play a selection of Reels at a session in ‘The Hurlers’, Limerick on 2nd May 2017. The musicians are - Conor Broderick, Galway; Jon Antonsson, Sweden; Calum Read, England; Vincent Murphy, Wexford; Emri Stenn, Florida, USA; Robbie Walshe, Wicklow; Sylvain Pourtier, France; Simon Pfisterer, Germany; Michéal Broderick, Limerick; Seán Kellegher, England. The Reels are - “Toss the feathers”, “Miss Thornton” and Seán Stenson’s”.
515.03 All-Ireland Senior button accordion champion 2016, Vincent Murphy from Annagh, Gorey, Co. Wexford, plays Reels - “Lucy Campbell’s” and “M and M” at a session in “The Hurlers”, Limerick on 2nd May 2017. Vincent is playing the new highly acclaimed “Brandoni Accordion” distributed by well-known accordion tuner/repairer Tom Lawlor from Nenagh, Co. Tipperary ( 087 1340611 ).
515.04 At the Comhaltas North America Convention in Chicago in April 2017, George MacAdam, Tullycorbett Comhaltas branch in Co. Monaghan, plays a selection of Reels on banjo. The reels are - “Martin Wynne’s No. 4”, “Pádraig McGovern’s’”and “Around the house and mind the dresser”. Piano accompaniment is by Kieran Flanagan, Pearl River, New York.
515.05 Recorded in Comhaltas Headquarters in Monkstown, Dublin on 9th January 2017, Uileann piper Tim Doyle and Fiona McNamara on fiddle, play 3 Slip Jigs - “McConnell’s”, “The night before Larry was stretched” and “The swaggering jig”. They are from Cr. Chualann CCE in Dublin and have recently released their excellent new CD called “ Scáthanna “.
515.06 All-Ireland 15-18 button accordion champion for 2016 John McCann, CCÉ, Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh, plays reels - “The nervous man” (P.O’ Brien) and “Richard O’ Dwyer’s” . Guitar accompaniment is by Gerry McMahon. Recorded at the special Nyah Concert in Cavan on 27th August 2016. The concert, organised every year by Martin Donohoe, also marked the launch of “The Cavan Bucks” CD (featuring Zoran Donohue, Barry Conaty and Ellen Grant).
515.07 Well-known button accordion player Alan Finn, who coached both his Senior and U-18 Céili Bands to All-Ireland successes in 2015 and again in 2016, plays a selection of Jigs on fiddle - “The Gaelic League”, “Out in the cold” and “Tom Billy’s”. The successful Bands are Shandrum (senior) and Crossfields (15-18).
515.08 A Hornpipe - “Fly by night” into “Finbar Dwyer’s Reel”, played by former All-Ireland button accordion champion Michael Curran and John Daly on fiddle with Kavan Donohue on guitar, at the Nyah Concert in Cavan on 27th August 2016.
515.09 Recorded at the Comhaltas North America Convention in Chicago in April 2017, Lexia Kennedy on fiddle and Bridget Collins on banjo, who play two Jigs - “Maurice’s” (composed by Lexia) and “The lark in the morning”.
515.10 Fiddle players L/R Emri Stenn from Florida, USA and Sylvain Pourtier from Bordeaux, France, play 3 Reels - “Sweeny’s buttermilk”, “The bag of spuds” and “Tom Ward’s downfall”. Recorded at a session in “The Hurlers”, Limerick on 2nd May 2017.
515.11 The Beartla Ó Flatharta Céilí Band, from Co. Kildare play a selection of Jigs - “Munster buttermilk’ and”Gillian’s apples”, in the Senior Céilí Band competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016 in Ennis, Co. Clare. Members of the Band are - Ruth Boylan, Finola Lawlor, Gary Lynch and Fergal O’ Neill on fiddles; Ferdia Ó Mongáin and Elaine Clarke on flutes; Róisín Ní Fhlatharta on accordion; Gearóid Ó Catháin on concertina; Declan Magee on piano and Úna Ní Fhlatharta on drums.
515.12 A selection of Jigs played by Scoil Eigse Tutors at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016 in Ennis, Co. Clare. L/R Eileen Gannon, St. Louis Irish Arts Centre, USA, Padraig Rynne and Tara Breen from Co. Clare and Marcus Moloney, native of Limerick and living in Ennis.
515.13 A group of 4 University of Limerick music students play Slip Jigs commencing with “Farewell to Whalley Range” and ending with “The blackhaired lass”, at a session in “The Hurlers”, Limerick on 2nd May 2017. The musicians are L/R Simon Pfisterer, Germany; Séan Kellegher, England; Conor Broderick, Galway and Sylvain Pourtier, France.
515.14 All-Ireland U-12 Champion 2016 on Uileann Pipes Slow airs, Jack Walsh, CCÉ, C. na bPíobairí Uileann, Dublin, plays the Reel “Colonel Frazer”. Recorded in Comhaltas Headquarters in Monkstown. Dublin on 9th January 2017.
515.15 Sinéad Nic Chionnaith, CCÉ, Clogher Valley, Co. Tyrone, plays a Hornpipe in 15-18 Fiddle competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016.
