563.01 All-Ireland champions 2018, for the 3rd year in-a-row, Shandrum Céilí Band from Co. Cork play a selection of Reels at the launch of their new CD in St. Mary’s Church, Buttevant on 18th May 2019. The reels are “The wind that shakes the barley”, “Toss the feathers” and “The ships are sailing”. The CD “The Shandrum Céilí Band” features many musical gems from the Boss Murphy Musical Legacy in North Cork area. 563.02 The selection played by St. Roch’s 15-18 Grúpa Ceoil from Glasgow, Scotland, at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018 in Drogheda, Co. Louth. 563.03 A session featuring a selection of Jigs at Tipperary Co. Fleadh 2019 in Ballina, Co. Tipp. Musicians include Deirdre Scanlon (fid), Aoife Naughton (flute), Eddie Whelan (guitar), Michael Searson (accordion - incidentally, Michael plays the popular “Cáirdín’ brand accordion which he manufactures), Michael Harty (flute), Seán Bashford (bouzouki), Eimear Watson (fid), Donal Watson (fid), Siobhán Kelly flute) and Michael Hackett (bodhrán). The Jigs are “The lark in the morning”, “The haunted house” and “The lilting banshee”. Deirdre Scanlon and some of her colleagues play a Session in the pub - The Washerwoman’s Pub - every Sunday evening from 7 to 9 pm. 563.04 The selection played by Fred Finn 15-18 Grúpa Ceoil from Sligo at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018 in Drogheda, Co. Louth. 563.05 Five musicians from The Academy of Irish Music, Chicago, USA, under the direction of Noel Rice, a musical genius and a wonderful gentleman, who, sadly, passed away in recent weeks after a lifetime devoted to the music. Recorded in April 2018 in Chicago, the musicians are L/R Nora and Kate Chambers, Maureen Dunne, Catriona Byrne and Rich Chiuppi. Noel can be seen applauding at the end of the Reels which are “The musical Priest”, “Dr Gilbert’s” and “The gravel walks”. More from that recording occasion in upcoming Programmes. Louth. 563.07 In 15-18 Duets at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018, Maedbh and Kate Ní Shé from CCÉ, Niall Ó Cathasaigh, Ballincollig, Cork, play a multi-part Jig - “The frieze breeches”. 563.08 From New York, USA, Brian Gallery, Liam Furlong and Danny Bourke, play a Reel - “The Leitrim lilter” - in Senior Trios Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2018 in Drogheda, Co. Clare play a Jig - “The old grey goose” at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2018 in Drogheda, Co. Louth. 563.11 At the Scoil Éigse Tutors’ Concert at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018, L/R Mairéad Carey, Sandra Walsh, Clare Ann Kearns and Deirdre Murphy play the multi-part Reel - “Limerick Lassies”. 563.12 An unusual type of tune known as a ‘linear tune’ ( where the melody develops throughout the whole tune without repetition ) called ‘’Pléaracha na Ruarcach’’ composed by Turlough O’ Carolan (1670/1738) and played on flute by Micheál Ó hAlmhain and Eimear Coughlan on harp at Scoil Éigse Tutors’ Concert at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018. 563.13 At the Scoil Éigse Tutors’ Concert at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018, George McAdam, banjo and Colm Slattery on button accordion play a selection of Reels commencing with “The old wooden bridge”. 563.14 From Glasgow, Scotland, St. Roch’s Céilí Band play a selection of Reels - “The old copperplate” and “Fred Finn’s” - in Senior Céilí Bands competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018 in Drogheda, Co. Louth. Band members are Fiddles - Louise Hunter, Siobhán McArdle, Róisín Anne Hughes and Mairéad Canning; Flutes - Patricia McArdle and Joe Armstrong; Accordion - Paddy Callaghan; Concertina - Catriona McArdle; Piano - David Browne; Drums - Danny Boyle. 563.15 Lendrum Céilí Band from CCÉ, Fintona, Co. Tyrone, play a Jig In 15-18 Céilí Bands competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018.
