I have just returned from a month in Ireland, hiking, playing music, seeing the various ancient sights, and attending the O’Carolan Harp Festival in Nobber.

The Harp Festival was the perfect completion to our trip. Never have we met such a friendly and welcoming community of hard working individuals as Ann and Tony Finnegan and their helpers with the festival. The festival was very well organised and executed, and we heard wonderful music both in the workshops and contests during the day, and in the evenings at the Ceili and in the Dee Local and Keoghan’s Pubs.

The Belfast Harp Orchestra was nothing short of spectacular.

We learned a great deal about Ireland and County Meath in particular in the programmes given by Danny Cusack on the poetry of the famine and by Seamus MacGabhann on the songs of Meath.

What a wonderful community and wonderful event. The event was a perfect advertisement for Ireland and County Meath and we were thrilled to have attended.
