Autumn 2002

Eagarfhocal

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Listowel lived up to the usual high standards which we have come to expect from this excellent venue. We are indebted to the diligent organising committee and the hospitable community who made Fleadh 2002 such a memorable occasion. We will have a full report on the Fleadh in the next issue of Treoir.

The Scoil Éigse, which precedes the Fleadh, has become ‘a fleadh within a fleadh’. With up to 800 participants, most of whom qualified for scholarships based on their musical achievements, the Scoil Éigse is the jewel in the crown of the Comhaltas education programme. This programme includes the TTCT teachers’ qualification; 600 classes; 25,000 candidates annually for validation at Fleadhanna Cheoil; the CCÉ/RIAM examinations with over 5,000 candidates; and the Performance Certification programme.

We salute all those who give of their time and talents to pass on our musical heritage to a younger generation.
