Spring 2000

Eagarfhocal

The cultural movement enters into the year 2000 with a high degree of confidence and dedication. There will be several major projects including Clasach of Craobh Chluain Tarbh and a Millennium Milestone of Brú Ború. Washington CCE will host Convention 2000 of Comhaltas in North America. The Fleadh Nua will be in Ennis; FIeadh Amhrán agus Rince will be in Ballycastle; Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Enniscorthy; TionóI Leo Rowsome at the Cultúrlann. All of this activity will be backed by Fleadhanna Chontae an Fleadhanna Cúige.

As usual, the concert tour programme will be an important feature on the 2000 calander of Comhaltas: the Tour of Britain in February; Tour of Ireland in March; and Tour of North America in October.

Education will continue to play a major part in the work of Comhaltas during 2000 with up to six hundred classes, backed up by the Scoil Eigse and the TICT course.

The activities of the 400 branches of Comhaltas worldwide, supported by exceptional dedication and voluntary commitment, will be an appropriate curtain-raiser for the 2001 celebrations - 50 Bliain ag Fás - to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Comhaltas in 1951.

Go raibh rath Dé ar ár saothar.
