Winter 2000

Eagarfhocal

One of the most gratifying achievements in 2000 was the return of the nationwide traditional entertainment scheme SEISIUN after an absence of over a decade. The silence has been broken! The native music, song and dance of Ireland were again centre stage throughout the four provinces. The accessibility of the indigenous arts; the excellence portrayed by performers young and old as local communities proudly displayed their cultural talents; the warm céad míle fáilte for locals and visitors alike who participated - all of these were hallmarks of SEISIUN 2000.

The Fleadh in Enniscorthy, with over 10,000 performers and 200,000 followers, will go down as one of ‘the greats’. How does one measure the sheer dedication, initiative and voluntary endeavours of the local organising committee? The nation surely owes them a debt of gratitude.

The extensive network of fleadhanna classes, concert tours, céilithe, courses, sessions all combined throughout 2000 to sustain the cultural infrastructure at home and abroad. This is made possible by the huge voluntary effort of thousands of men and women, boys and girls whose only motivation is love of country and her cultural heritage.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh: ta an naisiún go mór faoi chomaoin agaibh uilig. Beananchtaí na Féile oraibh agus go raibh rath Dé ar bhur saothar san athbhliain
