Is cúis áthais do Chomhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann a fhógairt go bhfuil Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2013 ag dul chuig Derry.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2013 has been allocated to Derry following today’s meeting of CCÉ’s Ardchomhairle held at Cultúrlann na hÉireann.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is a ten-day long event open to all embracing all aspects of the Irish Cultural traditions, music, song, dance agus an Ghaeilge. It is estimated that this national/international celebration of Irish culture will be attended by in the region of 300,000 people including a sizeable number of overseas visitors with upwards of 70% of the attendees comprising young people. The event is expected to generate an estimated income of upwards on €40 million in Derry and its hinterland.

The movement has designated 2012 as “Bliain na Gaeilge an Chomhaltais” reflecting CCÉ’s specific commitment to the Irish language.

Comhaltas wishes to acknowledge and commend the very strong applications also received from Ennis and Sligo to host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2013 and congratulates Derry on its successful application.
