Li Pistocoppi bring Italian sun to east Cork

Each year, one of the Seisiún shows presented by Craobh Eochaille CCÉ is extra special as it features a visiting folkdance group in association with the Cork International Folk Dance Festival. This year there was an Italian flavour as Li Pistocoppi performed at The Red Store in Youghal.

The change of venue was required to accommodate the great crowd that turned up to see Ceolta Sí and Lár na Cruinne share the stage with their Italian visitors. The outdoor setting, in the courtyard, was very atmospheric. The wonderful performance by the Italians was followed by an opportunity for the audience to participate and the dancing kept going as darkness fell.

The evening also provided an opportunity for the branch to welcome back a group of teenage members, led by teachers Daithí Kearney and Louise Keating and branch secretary Mary Treacy, who had taken part in Youth Band 2008 in the Czech Republic. The young Irish musicians had participated in an orchestra with groups from Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. They have returned to a buzzing summer seisiún season.

Earlier in the day, Li Pistocoppi had performed with members of Craobh Eochaille CCÉ at the band stand in Cobh. Leaving Youghal, the group returned to its base in Carrigaline. Over the weekend they will perform at the Damhsa Cork Internataional Folkdance Festival Gala concert in Cork’s City Hall before returning home. See www.damhsafest.ie for more details.
