The Banks of the Shannon

It is one hundred years ago since the birth of the legendary accordionist, Paddy O’Brien, and to mark the occasion Comhaltas has reissued that iconic EP, The Banks of the Shannon. It features with Paddy two other renowned traditional musicians, Séamus Connolly and Charlie Lennon.

These three celebrated musicians came together in 1973 under the stewardship of Séamus Mac Mathúna and delivered a jewel of performance which has captured the attention of the Irish traditional music fraternity at home and abroad.

Eibhlín Óg O’Brien spearheaded the rebirth of the much-acclaimed EP, and the CD is now available. Eibhlín is herself well-known in Irish traditional music circles as a renowned performer and a scholar of note.

The Banks of the Shannon is not just a collector’s item but a benchmark of authenticity and will be hugely sought after by aspiring musicians and connoisseurs alike.

The CD is available from the Cois na hAbhna Online Shop.
