MEMORIES OF 1916 – CUIMHNÍ 1916

To celebrate the 1916 Easter Rising, Craobh Bheartla Uí Fhlatharta, CCÉ Leixlip have produced a new show called ‘MEMORIES OF 1916’ featuring up to 40 musicians, dancers and singers.

The show brings the memories of the Easter Rising to audiences through the medium of Irish traditional music, song and dance and promises to be an enjoyable event for all ages.

‘MEMORIES OF 1916’ is produced by Anna Pegley and we are delighted that our own multi All-Ireland Champion winner, Ciarán Fitzgerald is working as musical director on the project. The show will include music and songs associated with the Easter Rising.

Speaking of the launch of ‘Macalla 1916 An Echo of the Past – A Vision for the Future, the Comhaltas 1916 Centenary Programme’, Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú, Ardstiúrthóir CCÉ said;‘Our cultural identity was central to the aspirations and motivation of the 1916 Easter Rising. This was evident in the poetry, songs and writings of the leadership and others. This is encapsulated in the slogan ‘Éire ní hamháin saor ach Gaelach chomh maith’. This cultural emphasis is reflected in the ethos of Comhaltas and will define our extensive centenary programme at home and worldwide’.

The performance of ‘MEMORIES OF 1916’ will take place on Saturday, 8 April 2016 at 8pm in St. Mary’s GAA Club, Leixlip.

We would like to thank Kildare County Council for their support and Leixlip GAA for the use of their facilities.

Tickets are a steal at €5 and are available at the classes on Monday evenings or at / 083 156 9814.
